Lancer baseball defeats Rockwood Summit soundly

Boys baseball has performed well this season, but there still is plenty of room for improvement. So far, they’ve collected a competitive, slightly under .500 with a record of 6-7.

The game before their win yesterday against Rockwood Summit last Thursday, was against their rival foe Marquette Mustangs. They got to the pitching early in the first inning, spotting four runs off of an early inning push. As the game continued, Lafayette maintained a lead that was large enough to sustain what seemed like an unrealistic margin. However, in the bottom of the 7th, the Mustangs came back from the deficit to tally eight runs and take the lead. They shut down Lafayette’s offense in the bottom half to clinch the victory.

In their game against Summit yesterday, the Lancers scored five runs in the first frame. In the next inning, their pitching surrendered six runs which temporarily gave the opponents the lead.

Junior Joey Thompson said, “We we’re down for an inning or two, but we knew the comeback was on.”

His prophecy became true when they recaptured the upper hand in the next inning, blotting another six runs in the third. They maintained  the lead for the rest of the game.

Senior Garrett Steins was key in the victory,  blasting two baseballs over  the fence bringing in a good portion of the RBIs.

Their next match up is this Tuesday April 21 against Seckman.

Thompson said, “I don’t really know too much about them but I’m confident we’ll be able to win”.
