Boys volleyball sets up for season opener
March 24, 2015
Spring is finally here, meaning that a new season of varsity boys volleyball is upon us.
After being knocked out in the quarterfinals at State last year, the Lancers are back and hope to make a name for themselves once again.
But it won’t be easy. Only 2 seniors return from last season, with the team being comprised of mostly juniors and sophomores.
“Yeah, I’d say we’re pretty young,” junior Nick LaVanchy said.
It’s also interesting to note that while there is senior leadership on the team, the two head captains are LaVanchy and sophomore Alex Gettinger.
The lack of returning members may prove to be a challenge for the Lancers.
“I see this as being more of a rebuilding year. People will most likely see us as being underrated.” LaVanchy said.
The first test of the squad will be a road game against the Pattonville Pirates, which is being held on Tuesday, March 24 at 4:15 pm.
“They shouldn’t be too much for us,” LaVanchy said.
While their upcoming game might not be much of challenge, it’s important to take baby steps before potentially making huge leaps in the postseason.
