The Lancer basketball team is off to a blazing start this year. They took fifth place in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament at Meramec Community College, where they ran the table after losing their second game to Vianney.

“We were seeded fifth and we finished fifth,” said head coach Scott Allen. “If you win three games in that tournament, it’s a success.”

The loss to Vianney is the Lancers only loss of the year up to this point; their record currently stands at 11-1.

The Lancers most recent victory came at home on Tuesday night over the Jaguars of Seckman High School, 58-47. Zach Steinberg led the Lancers with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Brian Boyd contributed 10 points.

“It was a good team game, we passed the ball pretty well,” Boyd said. “We aren’t playing selfish basketball right now.”

The Lancers have high expectations for the rest of the season, and expect to carry their current level of play through to the postseason.

“The road ahead looks pretty good,” Boyd said. “As long as we’re playing how we play now and not being selfish, we’ll be fine.”
