Varsity boys soccer loses to Summit in tournament semis; hopes to win big against Eureka

After a solid run in the Parkway Varsity tournament, the Lancers were defeated admirably by the Rockwood Summit Falcons this past Friday by a score of 3-1.

Senior Goalkeeper Brendan Carnahan recalled the various faults in the team’s performance that night, saying “The thing that mainly got us was defensive breakdowns; it was also poor play in the backfield that hurt us.”

But now the team must look past that. They have other things to worry about, like the annual game against Eureka.

Every year, the matchup between the Lancers and the Wildcats is an exciting one, regardless of which sport is being played. For the boys varsity soccer team, this season’s game is no different.

After being soundly defeated by the Wildcats in double overtime during the playoffs last year, the Lancers hope to get their revenge.

Carnahan believes that the Lancers have the advantage this time around, saying “They lost some of their key players from last year, while we retained most of ours, so that will definitely help us.”

The main theme so far in this season has been trying to capitalize on scoring chances. This is a must for the Lancers if they wish to trounce the Wildcats this time around.

“The Junior class is going to to have to step it up on the offense come game day” Carnahan said.

The game is scheduled to be Thursday, September 4 at 6:00. Look for it to be an exciting affair.
