With a record of 16-3, the boys basketball team found their rhythm this season as they gear up for Districts. With only seven games left before post-season, the squad hopes to continue their current five game winning streak tonight against Parkway South.
Overall offense this year is led by senior captain Nate Messer with 266 points total. Junior Cameron Scales trails behind Messer offensively in second, averaging 6.9 points per game. From behind the arc, Messer continues to display his dominance on the court with 51 three-pointers so far this season.
The boys have only lost one game since Dec. 28, falling to Saint Louis High. Unable to execute key baskets, the Lancers were trailing the Jr. Bills 12-35 at the half. Opening in the third quarter, the Lancers maintained a tighter defense, but struggled to score points. In the final minutes, senior Austin Sottile and the Jr. Billikens shut down the Lancers 55-26.
The boys easily got back on track against De Smet, Parkway Central and Hazelwood Central in the Ameritime Tournament at Missouri Baptist University, leaving with the championship title. They have since defeated Francis Howell, 60-47, and Oakville, 53-50.
Tonight, Feb. 11, the Lancer crew faces off against Parkway South away at 6 p.m.
