The Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition is sponsoring their second annual PSA and Poster Contest. Participating students will share their talent by creating a public service announcement or a poster about the prevention of substance abuse.
The Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition is a non-profit organization in which volunteers from all of the Rockwood district work together to educate others and prevent youth substance abuse. The program is open to any adult or adolescence in the Rockwood community.
To enter, all students must do is include at least one statistic related to substance abuse in their original poster or PSA. Creativity is encouraged! The deadline is January 22, 2013.
Shannon Green, the Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition part-time project coordinator, said “The best part is that students are given the opportunity to raise awareness among their peers about substance abuse. I believe these send a powerful message to teens, since they come from other teens.”
Director of Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition Renee Heney said a panel of judges select the first, second and third place winners, but audience votes determine the winners of “People’s Choice”.
Winning entries will be featured in several locations around the community such as Six Flags, schools, city halls, fitness centers, and on TV channels like MTV, MTV2, and Nickelodeon! Additionally, prizes and People’s Choice Awards will be awarded for the first, second and third place winners.
Green said she cannot reveal any of the prizes, but assures students that they will be nice prizes donated from local businesses in the Rockwood community.
Heney said, “Word has it that several amazing videos and posters are in the works. We can’t wait to view this year’s submissions”.
