The Rockwood School District has announced a change to this year’s school calendar which was originally altered due to excessive snow days.
The change will make the last day of school for elementary, middle and high school students May 27. This makes the last day for teachers May 31.
According to the Rockwood website, the change will still allow Rockwood students to meet the state’s requirements for an AdvancEd (national) accreditation and the state law requiring the Board of Education to, provide at least 174 days of school.
The adjusted Rockwood school calendar meets the requirements for a full year’s education because according to the Rockwood website, “It has been the practice of the district to have a 180 day student attendance calendar.”
Principal Jphn Shaughnessy said, “I think it’s a nice way to end it on a Friday. We don’t have to carry things over the holdiday weekend. It only extends the snow schedule one day from what it originally was.”
He added, “Now, staff will have to come back and checkout on that Tuesday, but hopefully we will be able to do something that allows them to come in on that Saturday to help them out a little bit as well.”
Under the new AdvancedEd accredidation there are guidelines that specify a certain number of calender days that each school level must meet.
“We were working under the assumption that high school needed a couple more days that everybody else but that’s not the case. That has allowed us to end the year without having to make up one extra day,” Shaughnessy said.
“I don’t think that one individual day makes a big difference since it’s right before summer break. One day isn’t as big of a deal,” junior Jake Lee said.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
