In what may have been one of their most competitive games all season, the Lady Lancer soccer team beat rival Eureka 2-1 in a second overtime on May 20.
The team gave up an early goal in the first half, but kept the score at 0-1 for the rest of the half.
The Lady Lancers picked up their game in the second half, with sophomore Kate Barber scoring in the 16th minute to tie the game.
With junior Laura Wade in goal, the team kept the score tied at 1-1 through the games end, and they entered their first sudden death overtime.
After 15 intense minutes with no goals by either team, the game entered its second overtime where sophomore Ashley Parks took the ball down the sideline and scored, ending the game at 2-1.
“You start out the season 1-3 with too many girls and everyone’s concerned,” Head Coach Tim Walters said. “But now we’re here and it’s worked out great. we gave up an early goal..then some people came in and helped out but it’s a team thing all around. This was as good a District game as we’ve had in a long time.”
The team will continue post-season play against Ursuline on May 24 at 4 p.m. at Ursuline Academy. The Lady Lancers last faced Ursuline on April 30, where they beat the Bears 2-1.
