Here’s the lowdown: Upcoming events

Student Council (STUCO) is sponsoring the American Red Cross blood drive on Jan. 28 in the Gym.

The Freshman Class of 2014 is sponsoring the annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Freshmen students will host a variety of carnival games and activities. Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase. 
The LHS Trivia Night, hosted by the Sophomore Class of 2013, will take place on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons. Order forms are available in the Sophomore Office. Each ticket costs $20, and each table will hold a team of eight people.

The annual Mr. LHS competition will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Theater. A junior or senior boy will represent various LHS clubs in talent, interview, casual wear and formal wear rounds. Tickets will be available for $6 at lunch Friday, Jan. 28 through Tuesday, Feb. 1. Tickets will not be available at the door.

The Taste of West County, sponsored by the Junior Class, will be held on Monday, Feb. 28 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Order forms are available in the Junior Office. Samples from over 30 local restaurants will be provided, and beverages will be available for $1. Individual tickets are $12 each, and a family ticket for four people is $10. Additional family member tickets cost $10. Cookbooks are also available for sale to benefit the Class of 2012. They can be purchased with a Taste of West County tickets for $15. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door.
  
At a recent board meeting, Rockwood revised its official food allergy policy. Proposed changes include developing an Individualized Health Plan and an Emergency Action Plan for students with sever food allergies, along with providing information to staff members about specific students’ allergies. Also, students will be educated on allergies and potential signs and symptoms. In some cases, food may be restricted in certain classrooms to protect students with severe allergies.
