For the Lafayette boys lacrosse team, things just keep getting better and better.
With strong team chemistry and quite a bit of talent, the boys have a current winning record of 7-3.
“The past two years the team struggled to pull itself together, however this year we have done a great job playing together,” senior Jeff Holiday said.
“Our defense is working together and our offense is putting the ball in the net. Even with all that we would be nothing without our outstanding goalie, Tyler Bischoff,” Holiday added.
The team’s last game was against strong opponenet Parkway West on April 21, in which the boys came away with a 12-11 win, fighting through double overtime.
Senior captain Andy Slocum agrees with Holiday in regards to Bischoff’s contribution to the team.
“The key player in the [Parkway West] game was goalie Tyler Bischoff,” Slocum said.
Regardless of their success, however, there is always room for improvement.
“Ground balls are a huge key to success in lacrosse. We could use a little more work at winning ground balls to keep control of the game,” Holiday said.
“If we did this we would have less turnovers and would cause more turnovers for the other team,” he continued.
The expectations are still high in regards to post season play.
“As long as we play to our full potential and continue to play together as a team, we have a chance to win state,” Holiday said.
Due to the inclement whether, the team has had multiple rain outs, but they are scheduled to take on 17-2 Rockhurst Jesuit, the 2010 State Champions, in Kansas City on April 30.
