In preparation for its season, the Lafayette varsity football team suited up for some live hits at the Hillsboro Jamboree on Aug. 21. The event pitted the Lancers against Columbia-Rockbridge and Vianney in a three-way scrimmage.
Each team was given 36 offensive and defensive plays as a warmup for their respective openers. Lafayette fared well, beating Rockbridge but falling to Vianney. Regardless of the result though, players were provided with the kind of game action that can’t be replicated in practice. And as the team’s Aug. 27 season opener against Eureka approaches, that will be key to putting the Lancers in what Assistant Coach Marty Margalski called “game mode.”
“It gave us an opportunity to play against someone other than ourselves. The kids get used to the speed of the game and lets us know what to work on,” Head Coach Boyd Manne added.
