The Sept. 7 boys swim meet against Parkway West proved to be very successful for the Lancers. Though it is still early in the season, the meet was only the second of the year, the team had six State cuts.
Swimmers who qualified for State included senior Alex Vavra in the 100-yard fly, juniors Lucas Bruder in the 50-yard freestyle, Alec Morgan in the 200-yard freestyle and freshman Patrick Vega in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard freestyle. The 200-yard freestyle relay team also qualified.
“The boys did very well at the meet,” Head Coach Todd Gabel said. “Being the second meet of the year, we are still working on starts, turns and stroke technique. Overall, we look good. All three relays are now qualified for State. We had five more State qualifying performances.”
The team beat the Longhorns 131-55, and are confident as they move towards their next goal, the Marquette Relays.
“That meet [the Marquette Relays] will tell how good we really are,” Gabel said.
The relays are held at Marquette High School and will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 10.
