Rockwood School District announced Jan. 27 that Curtis Cain, the Superintendent of the Wentzville School District, will be the new Superintendent for Rockwood. Cain has been with the Wentzville School District since 2013 and was named the 2022 Missouri Superintendent of the Year in November of 2021. Cain would be instated on July 1, 2022.

Lafayette Theatre performs Fall Play, Classic Mystery Game

As Yvette, the maid, played by Mallory Gabris, serves drinks towards the beginning of the play, Professor Plum, played by senior Peter Schaper, ponders with the rest of the characters why they were invited to the dinner party.

As tensions rise and suspicion grows between characters, Mrs. White, played by senior Surayya Cazembe, shares a concerned look with Mrs. Peacock, played by sophomore Mera Flores.

Cazembe's character, Mrs. White questions Bounds' character, Wadsworth, as he explains the basis of the play, the board game Clue. The image projected on the screen represents the rooms throughout the house.

Sophomore Ben Dimmic, who played Colonel Mustard, and Flores' character, Mrs. Peacock, face off after Mustard suggests that they split up to search the house and find the murderer.

Junior Makenzie Elsalaymeh's character, Miss Scarlett, rolls a die to determine her pair for splitting up to search the house. After not getting the rolls they desired, the characters moved the die upstage to go unseen by the audience.

Senior Jake Bingham, who played the Hooded Figure, murders one of junior Logan Jaycox's characters, The Motorist, with a wrench just before he can reveal one of the character's true identity. Both Bingham and Jaycox played multiple characters throughout the duration of the play, Bingham played both Mr. Boddy and The Hooded Figure, while Jaycox played the parts of The Motorist and The Cook.

One of senior Erica Shelton's characters, the Evangelist, makes a stop to talk to the characters about her religion in the midst of multiple murders in the play. Shelton played three different characters througout the course of the play, including The Cop, The Singing Telegram Girl and the Evangelist.

Gabris' character, Yvette, brutally stabs the Cook, played by junior Logan Jaycox, while acting out the proposed method of murder, as explained by Wadsworth.

Cazembe's character, Mrs. White, reveals to the audience her guilt over the murder of her husband after being accused of being the murderer among the group.

After revealing his identity and role in the events of the evening, Josh Lanzotti's character, Mr. Green, poses as a plant, to show the other characters that he remained unsuspected all along.

After Bounds' character, Wadsworth, was killed by Lanzotti's character, Mr. Green, Schaper's character, Professor Plum checks to ensure his death was final.

The cast of 'Classic Mystery Game' takes their final bow at the conclusion of the performance.

Language arts teacher Jenny Ingram stands in her classroom holding her "Good Vibes Only" sign. Ingram places emphasis on creating a positive environment in her classes. In June 2021, Ingram learned that her Breast Cancer resurfaced as Stage Four. "For me, [a stage four diagnosis] is like a chronic illness, it's not a death sentence. I've read that stage four breast cancer can wax and wane. I may get to a point where there's no evidence of disease, the medication I'm taking is effective and you don't see lesions in the bones or tumors, it could get to that. But you're never cured. You always have to be monitoring it," she said. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As Ingram opens her packed lunch for school, her daily medicine case sits next to her. Every meal Ingram eats has to be logged along with the exact time she takes her medicine.

This year, RSD is facing a bus driver shortage, which has resulted in routes within safe walking distance to the school being eliminated and others being combined in addition to certain after-school activity buses not being availible.

While warming up for the game, freshman Josephine Alspaw stretches with her team. Alspaw is one of four freshmen on varsity this year and has a .286 batting average.

As an attempt to uplift spirits after a 10-0 loss to Francis Howell Central, the team created "I can" statements during practice to encourage themselves and their teammates during the game about hitting approaches. Coach Ally McReynolds-Gardner said, "It was kind of a mental exercise for them to build themselves up and have confidence in the box."

While warming up for the bottom of the first inning, freshman Abby Carr practices pitching in preparation for her no-hitter game. She said that as she finished out her game, she was thinking to just "hit my spots and keep working ahead knowing that I can throw strikes and throw it past them."

In the fourth inning of the game, with the Lancers up 2-0, coach Scott Holtmann sits in the dugout, watching the game unfold and keeping statistics. After the game that contained no team errors, he said, "We got to that level, now we have to sustain. We're not gonna be able to do that every game but that is the goal every game."

During the fourth inning of the game against Francis Howell on Sept. 1, sophomore catcher Lilian Ware grabs a pitch behind the plate. The Lancers won, 3-0 bringing their season record to 3-4.

After pulling a win for the team's first home game, senior Paige Halter sits in the team huddle, celebrating their win. After each game, the team has a tradition where the player that previously earned "the wheel" passes it off to a player that they believed "steered the ship" during that game. On Sept. 9, the wheel was handed off by Betancourt-Diaz to Carr and Adzick.

Betancourt-Diaz makes it to first base in the fifth inning. Later in the inning, Betancourt-Diaz scored Lafayette's third and final run of the game. She is currently tied with Ware for the highest number of hits with six.

Carr poses as Holtmann takes a photo to post on Twitter to celebrate her game. Carr pitched for the Lancers in their first home game of the season and she achieved a no-hitter game. A no-hitter game is when a pitcher doesn't allow the opposing team to run any bases on a hit, limiting them to walks.

In the fourth inning, Adzick makes a run for home base to score the Lancer's second run of the game. Adzick's slugging percentage is .350.

Sophomore Addyson Jones slides to home plate after a hit by junior Emma Durfee. After the slide, Jones was called out by the umpire. She holds the fourth-highest amount of plate appearances on her team with 17.

The Rockwood School District currently has a mask mandate in place for the 2021-2022 school year. In 2020, mask mandates were issued by St. Louis County and the Rockwood School District in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
