During the game on Sept. 16, senior Audrey Savacool spikes the ball to the other side during a volley. The game was the Chris Toomey memorial game, which was played in honor of the former coach who passed away over the summer.

Coaches: Zach Young and Sue Tillery

Record from last season: 32-5-1

Captains: Seniors Madi Hartman, Audrey Savacool and junior Alyssa Nelson

Coach Intel:

“For us, we are very lucky to get a lot of club players who come in with a lot of skill already. I think sometimes our biggest thing when it comes to the big competitions and big games is performing under pressure. It’s a difficult thing to do for anybody, but I think that’s one thing we should really focus on, those pressure situations of having confidence and just playing the game,” Young said.

Team Intel:

“We have such a talented team this season. It’s such an honor to play with the caliber of players and coaching we have. There really is no ceiling for our group as long as we can continue to build each other up, stay mentally tough and not let the pressure in. I think our number one goal is to play our best for one another and leave it out there every game. If we can keep doing that, the winning will just happen,” Hartman said.

“I have been really excited for this season before it even started because we had a really strong team last year and we didn’t lose many seniors so we were expecting to have a very successful year. As we have played some games our strengths are the ability to put the ball down in the front row, but our weaknesses have been our defensive touches whether that be blocking or back court defense/keeping the ball off the ground,” Nelson said.

“We hit our rivals and it didn’t go great and that’s something that’s been hard for us because we have been winning a lot of big games so it was our first tough loss, but we’ve already been talking about mentality and how to bounce back from that and we’ve been amping up our practices. It’s been a lot but it’s been super fun,” Savacool said.

Honestly we have a really good group of people and we are so tightly knit that [i expect to go] as far as we can go. I honestly think anyone we play is going to be a good competition and hopefully we win. I am pretty confident,” senior Jordyn Lochmann said.
