Lewis confident team will continue to succeed in Witter absence
January 12, 2017
The last four games for girls basketball haven’t exactly been up to par. The team is sitting at 6-5 on the season and has lost the last four games. Despite a rough go over the past couple weeks, Interim Head Coach, Ashley Lewis, is optimistic about the teams direction.
“I am sure that emotionally and mentally this season has been tough on the girls to see Coach Witter go through what he has been through,” Lewis said. “The girls have been very resilient through this whole process. Our coaching staff has stepped up to the plate and I believe we are having a great season. We are excited for Coach Witter to get healthy and come back in February.”
The team has improved slightly on shooting percentage and assists, but will need to turn things around soon in order to compete with some big name teams.
Tara Robbe still remains the leading scorer on the team, with 10.1 points per game and has become a force to be reckoned with. She is also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. Another young star emerging on the team is Kayla Carpenter. She has played in 10 of 11 games this season and is making a big impact with her ball-handling skills as well as her passing skills. With her low turnover ratio, she has been able to help facilitate the ball much better offensively for the Lady Lancers. Only being a freshman, Carpenter is set to impress folks over the next few years.
The Lady Lancers will travel to Northwest Cedar Hill High School and face off against the Lions. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 13.
