The Lafayette girls swimming and diving team took second place at the Suburban West Conference Meet. With their 514 points, they were behind only Marquette, who had 611 points. The other teams participating were Parkway South with 289 points, Lindbergh with 214 points, Eureka with 196 points, Oakville with 117 points and Mehlville with 86 points.

Senior Megan McFarland said, “We have a strong backbone of underclassmen that are club swimmers, so a lot of our faster swimmers are a part of a club team and extremely dedicated to the sport.”

The Lancers took first in a number of events. Delaney Thomas won the 50m freestyle. Franceska Petrosino won the 100m butterfly. Claire van Biljon won the 100m freestyle. And the team won both the 200m medley relay and 400m freestyle relay.

McFarland said, “This is like crunch time for us. This the time to fix any of the flaws we had throughout the season, like the slow swims at conference. This our time to crack down and really fix what we need to fix.”

They prepare for their State competition on Friday Feb. 17 and Saturday Feb. 18.
