Lafayette (4-3) won a hard fought game against the Webster Groves Statesman 17-14 on Sept. 30. The Lancers got off to a shaky start, going down by seven to start the game, but they kept up and responded with 17 points throughout the game, sealing the win. Webster Groves star player Donovan Daniels was held in check by a swarming Lancer defense, that only allowed 270 offensive yards.

The offense, while not putting up ridiculous yardage on the Webster Groves defense, did improve on their efficiency from the previous games. The offensive line let up only one sack and the offense managed to not turn the ball over. The defense also forced fumbles and had an interception of their own.

The Lancers next game is against the 5-2 Fox Warriors. Though Fox has a solid record, many of their wins are against teams that are 1-6 or 0-7.

“We need to run the ball with more authority and make sure our line is good in the trenches because we are facing a good defensive line this week,” wide receiver Tommy Taylor said.

Taylor has had a great season thus far posting team highs in receptions, yards and touchdown receptions. He has 24 catches for 461 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor expressed that team has only one goal in the game against Fox.

“Just win the game. Whatever the cost is, we need to find a way to win,” Taylor said.

The game is on Friday Oct. 7 at 7 p.m at Fox.
