After rocky start, girls soccer has successful season

The Lady Lancers girls soccer team just doesn’t quit. After winning just two of their first six games, the Lady Lancers have come back with a vengeance, surging to a 13-6 record as they enter the District tournament.

The team’s newfound success is largely due to their increased cohesion, according to junior midfielder Devyn McDaniels.

“As the year progressed, we developed a more balanced starting lineup, and we put our best players out on the field,” Mcdaniels said.

As they enter the District tournament, the Lancers see their first game against Marquette on Saturday as an opportunity for redemption.

“They beat us in the district championship last year, so it will be a tough game,” McDaniels said. “The teams are pretty evenly matched, so I think that the game will go to penalty kicks.”

The Lancers will open the District tournament against the rival Marquette Mustangs at Washington at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
