Girls soccer looks for strong start to season
April 8, 2014
The Lady Lancers varsity soccer team hopes for a successful season after a modest 1-1 start. Their first two games included a solid 2-1 win at Fort Zumwalt East, followed by a loss to St. Charles West, 1-2.
In a disappointed turn of events, St. Charles West received the opportunity to clinch the win with a free kick after a questionable foul called by the referee. The goal was scored to put the Warriors in the lead with little time left as the Lancers were unable to tie it up before the buzzer.
Despite the fact that the season is still in its very early stages, the team still has its share of stat leaders.
Freshman Jessica Smith currently leads the Lady Lancers in points with 4 (2 goals), with junior Anna Saunders sitting just behind her at 3 points (1 assist, 1 goal).
Lafayette will face off against the 2013 State Champions Eureka Wildcats on Apr. 8 at 6 p.m. Look for it to be an intense match-up.
