Field hockey falls against Marquette by a score of 5-0
October 27, 2014
Girls field hockey started off on the right foot, getting ahead early in the standings. They beat their Conference arch nemesis Eureka Wildcats, with a final score of 5-0.
However, as their schedule got tougher, the Lancers began losing more games than they should have been. Going on a silent cold streak, they lost their next four games.
Senior Alex Oscarson said, “We started off really well, we were 5-1, then we hit a few bumps and we had a bad streak for a little bit. We finally finished the season at 8-8.”
On Oct. 21, Lafayette battled with Ladue on their home turf. Ladue was ranked fourth in state, and Lafayette was ranked 11th. Despite the ranking, the Lancers snuck up from behind in an upset. They ended up defeating Ladue by a slight margin, with a score of 6-5.
Carrying their success into their next match up, On Oct. 23, they shut out Parkway West with a final of 6-0.
Advancing on to play Marquette, the Lancers were looking to get revenge for their defeat earlier in the season. Losing 2-1 in their first contest on Sept. 30, they fell once again to the Mustangs by a margin of 5-0.
Oscarson said, “We have many freshman that will do well next year. Jill Wipke and Meghan Conroy and they really have been great and helpful to the team.”
As the season comes to a close, they played well, but fell just short. But with a solid group of freshman, look for them to compete well in the future.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
