Baseball team looks to gain momentum against the Mustangs
April 15, 2014
With a 6-5 record overall, the varsity baseball team has completed almost half of their season despite the unpredictable weather. Competition against conference rival, the Eureka Wildcats, was cancelled last night, April 14, due to rain.
Starting on March 27 vs Mount Carmel, the Lancers found themselves on a three game winning streak. In a close match up, Lafayette defeated Mount Carmel 3-2. With a substantial break, the Lancers faced off against Jefferson on April 10, easily shutting them down 13-1. The next day, the team traveled to Sedalia where they competed against Marshall, winning 11-0.
The Lancers ran into some trouble against Smith-Cotton later that day, ending their streak 7-9. The boys were able to get back up and defeat both Ozark and Raymore-Peculiar to end their trip in Sedalia.
According to stlhighschoolsports.com, senior Zach Ruckman leads the team in RBIs with 11 this season. Tied for total runs are seniors Cole DuPont and Ruckman with 12. DuPont has also found some success pitching with seven strikeouts.
The team’s next game will take place this Thurs., April 17, against the Marquette Mustangs. This anticipated match-up will begin at 4:15 p.m. at the Ballwin A.A. fields.
