A season in review: Lancers Hockey Club
January 30, 2014
It has been a season of ups and downs for Lancers hockey. The loss of players due to their involvement in out-of-school clubs and a 3-15-2 record were just some of the low points of the year for the team.
The biggest performance by the Lancers had to have been the 5-4 defeat of the Marquette Mustangs. The rivalry between these two clubs dates back several years ago and has gotten more heated due to closely contested matches like this one.
Regarding individual performances, several players stood out during the game against the Mustangs. Senior Jake Lownsdale scored 3 of the 5 points to put the Lancers up against Marquette. When the game was tied 4-4 senior Garrett Thompson scored the team’s fifth goal with 50 seconds left, resulting in a victory against the Mustangs.
The Lancers’ first playoff game is against Seckman on Friday, Jan. 31, followed by a game against Priory the next day.
Regardless of the club’s post-season affairs, the main priorities for future seasons include getting back veteran players, along with gaining some new talent and bringing in other people who have been exclusively playing for out-of-school clubs.
