Lancers lose Homecoming game against SLUH; surge against Patriots

After a tough loss on their home turf during their Homecoming week, the Lancers regrouped against the Parkway South Patriots this past Friday.

Lafayette broke the scoreless run in the second quarter when junior Justin Perry flew past the Patriots with a 4-yard touchdown.  Only moments after, sophomore Jake Reynolds converted the extra-point, Parkway South’s Daymond Green-Shannon got them on the board with an unbelievable 94-yard kickoff return. Scoring continued throughout the quarter, with both the Patriots and Lancers picking up touchdowns. Unfortunately, Lafayette missed an extra point, putting South up 14-13.

In the 3rd quarter, sophomore Brendan Scales rushed for a 39-yard touchdown, creating a lead throughout the majority of the quarter. After Parkway South’s Luke Bakula converted a field goal, senior quarterback Evan Scales proceeded to score Lafayette’s fourth touchdown, putting the Lancers up 26-17 at the quarters end.

In the final frame, Parkway South’s offense was shut down. Eventually, the Lancers grinded out another touchdown, when senior Corey Manne found Evan scales’ 43-yard pass in the back of the end zone. That would be the final touchdown of the game, with the final score being 33-17.

Even with the heartbreaking loss against SLUH during Homecoming week, the Lancers restored their consistent play with a win the following Friday. Lafayette will compete in their last regular season game this upcoming Friday at Fox High School.
