Girls volleyball looks to continue winning streak against Francis Howell

In their first week of the 2013 season, the girls volleyball team defeated both St. Joseph’s Academy and Marquette. Although the squad lost important players last year, the new varsity members have stepped up and proven their abilities against strong competition.

Against the St. Joe’s Angels, Lafayette lost the first set, 19-25. With brand new faces on varsity, the girls struggled with nerves and were unable to finish the key points. Once the Lancers began to find their rhythm, they were able to clinch the win in the next two sets (second, 25-14 and third, 25-19).

Senior Lily Johnson and junior commit Tori Roe led the team in points and attacks. Both players are committed to play volleyball in college, Johnson at Missouri State University and Roe at Oral Roberts University.

The next match-up against the Mustangs was another Lancer victory. Dominating in two sets, the girls were able to come out strong and relaxed. Senior Jackie Scott led the team in points scored, while Johnson executed the most kills.

On Tues. Sept. 10, the Lady Lancers will face Francis Howell  at 5:15 p.m. Both teams are undefeated so far this season, but the Lancers will have the home court advantage.
