Girls tennis advance in team Districts

To kick off the Team District tournament, Lafayette girls tennis received a bye on Monday, Oct. 7 while Parkway South and Parkway West battled in a tight match-up. Parkway South upset West in a 5-4 victory, advancing them to day two against the Lancers.

Lafayette’s deep, strong line-up dominated the first five matches, clinching the win over the Patriots. Seniors Haleigh Chobanian, Arianna Demos, Kayla Neskar; juniors Abby Carpenter and Erica Mange all quickly won their matches, sealing a spot in the next round of Districts.

So far this season, the girls are 13-2, but are currently running with a 10 game winning streak. The Lancers will face the Marquette Mustangs today to reach Team Sectionals. After a tight 5-4 battle during regular season, the Lancers look to repeat another victory against the Mustangs today, Oct. 9.

Individual Districts begin on Thurs., Oct. 10 and continue to Friday. Chobanian and freshman Marlo McElroy will compete in singles, while Demos and Carpenter will play doubles alongside Neskar and senior Emily Weinhold.
