Girls field hockey prepares for upcoming competition
Winning State in 2011 and winning the first two games of the State tournament last year. This season the team has compiled a record of 5-3.
The girls Field Hockey team still has a long season ahead of them as they attempt to end where they did last year.
Losing valuable senior players from last season, Senior Brooke Withington has stepped up to the plate. According to STL High School Sports, Withington is ranked in the top percent for the following: Winning percentage leaders, goals against average leaders, shootouts played in leaders, saves and save percentage leaders.
The Varsity team also has dealt with a new coaching staff. Coach Melissa Lantz was the JV coach for the past four years and has moved up due to Kate O’Connell’s absence.
Thursday Sept. 26 the team will face Cor Jesu on the home field at 4:15 p.m. While on Friday Sept. 27 at 4:15 p.m. the girls will travel to Ladue.
Next Monday Sept. 30 at 4:15 p.m. the team will compete against Marquette away. According to Junior Avery Cantor this is the team’s biggest competitor. If the girls want to have another win, they will have to stop Jessie Dunlap one of Marquette’s leading scorer who has five goals and three assists.
