Cross Country teams stride toward successful season

The Lafayette Cross Country teams are trekking towards victory this season.

The girls team has been very successful, despite a few minor setbacks.

“We’ve had a few people had injuries, which caused the varsity team to change throughout the season. Everyone’s becoming really healthy now, so our team is looking good,” said sophomore Sarah Nicholson.

The triumphant season can be credited to a new addition to the team, as well as the determination and motivation from all of the athletes.

“One girl, Elise Larson, transferred from Kansas. She’s very good. A lot of girls have stepped it up and become much more serious,” Nicholson said.

With Sectionals coming up this weekend, and Districts fast approaching on November 9th, the team is ready to finish off the season strong.

“We all work very hard in the early part of the week, and we’ll take Friday a little easier so we’re ready for Saturday. Towards Sectionals, this week and the next week, we’ll be tapering in our training,” Nicholson said.

As for her expectations for State, Nicholson has her eye on the prize.

“Top 4 would be great. We’ve just got to see what happens and do our best.”

The boys cross country team have enjoyed a victorious season as well.

“We’ve won almost every meet. We’re trying to win State right now. If we can, that’d be fantastic,” sophomore Dylan Quisenberry said.

The majority of the boys on the team are underclassmen, with the exception of one senior. Their youth does not impede their success; Two of the boys who placed in the top five for the Suburban West Meet were sophomores, and one was a freshman.

The boys hope to conclude their successful season with one final victory.

“In preparation for state, we’re doing the same thing we’ve been doing all season, training hard every day,” Quisenberry said.
