Boys soccer falls to Parkway West in Parkway West/Northwest Tournament

The Lancers walk away from the Parkway West/Northwest Tournament one win away from being tournament champions. The tournament was run by a point system; the team getting the most points out of three games would become the victors.

Due to the heat advisory, the boys season opener was cancelled on Aug. 30 where they would have played Hazelwood West. The game was not rescheduled and the boys played the next team on their list, Fox.

The Lancers went down early 0-1 then quickly came back with a goal from junior Justin Zadoks to tie the game 1-1. For the rest of the game it was back and forth, but Lafayette seemed to be the better team.

“They were really physical which took us being the better team out of the equation so it was more like a grudge match,”  senior Jack Fladda said.

With two seconds left in the game, Zadoks scored a clutch goal securing the win for the Lancers. For Zadoks, that tallied his second goal of the game and a game winner. The boys walked away confident and feeling good about the rest of the season with their first game in the books.

The next game against Parkway West would be the deciding match for the tournament champions. Ten minutes into the game, Parkway West scored which put the Lancers down 0-1. The half ended with Lafayette still down by one, but the boys started the second half strong and refused to go down.

Late into the half, Fladda scored a header and now the momentum for Lafayette was at an all-time high. The game ended with Parkway West on top 1-2. It was a good effort from the Lancers and they are ready to start the regular season on Sept. 10. The game will be against Northwest High School on the Lions home field at 4:15.
