Nine days after playing Marquette to raise money for breast cancer research, the Lancers faced the Mustangs again but with District implications on the line. And just like the initial meeting on Sept. 27, the Lancers shut out their rivals in a 7-0 District-opening win.
Leading the way this season, both as a hitter and pitcher, has been freshman Maddie Seifert. At the plate, she leads the team with a .430 batting average and is second in RBI’s with 18. She also wasted no time becoming the team’s ace, going 13-9 with a 1.37 ERA.
Senior Lindsey Button has followed up a strong junior season by hitting .386 and leading the Lancers with 20 RBI’s. Junior Mara Worley and sophomore Lindsey LaFrance also provided offense with averages of .420 and .417, respectively.
Although these strong offensive campaigns, the team’s pitching has been its best asset and ranks third among Suburban West schools in runs allowed.
The Lancers continue District play today against Eureka at 4:15 p.m.
