In the first game of the season, the girls volleyball team sought revenge on Aug. 31 against the St. Joe’s Angels, who knocked them out of the playoffs last season in Sectionals.
St. Joe’s has been picked as the favorite to win State this year, but even more impressive, they are also ranked number one nationally in a preseason poll by prepvolleyball.com.
The Lady Lancers held their own in a 1-2 loss in an ultimately tightly contested event. They lost their first game 15-25, won the second 26-24, and fell in the third by a score of 20-25.
Juniors Marilyn Dick and Abby Finder helped the efforts, Dick with13 kills and Finder with 24 assists. After the difficult loss, the team came home for a match against the Seckman Jaguars. The Lancers had no trouble putting Seckman away quickly. Winning 2-0.
The Lady Lancers travel to Kirkwood on Sept. 2 for a match there.
