The Lancers put up a strong front as they competed in the First Capital Cross Country Meet at McNair Park in St. Charles on Sept. 3.
As expected by Boys Coach Randy Seagrist, varsity runners senior Kurtis Harshman and sophomore Derek Legenzoff finished the highest among the other Lancers in the boys varsity division.
Harshman placed fourth with a time of 17:07.96, while Legenzoff followed closely behind in 16th with a time of 17:45.77.
The Lady Lancers had a successful showing, as well, with five of the top varsity runners placing among the top 20.
Among the fastest were sophomore Grace Bueckendorf who placed 12th, running the 5K race in a time of 21:26.81, followed by sophomore Jessy Maddox in 14th, finishing with a time of 21:31.71.
Overall, the boys placed seventh out of 16 teams, and the girls placed third. The next meet will be the Stan Nelson Invitational at Northwest House Springs High School on Saturday, Sept. 11.
The Lancers are expected to display strong performances throughout the season. “I expect us to be competitive in every meet the rest of the year,” Seagrist said.
