Sophomore breaks own javelin record, girls soccer extends winning streak

Weekly Sports Update April 18-23

Baseball

The Lancers went 3-2 last week. They lost 4-1 against Lindbergh, April 18. However, they came roaring back with a 17-3 win over the Flyers, the next day. The Lancers hit three home runs in their blowout win against Lindbergh. After their big win, they lost against Francis Howell 8-4, April 21. Then they went 1-1 in a doubleheader against Jackson, April 22. The Lancers won their first game against Jackson with a score of 3-0. But then they lost 6-2 against Jackson later that day. The Lancers’ record is now 9-10-1. Coming up this week, the Lancers will face Parkway West twice, April 25 and 26. The April 26 game will be at home at 4:15 p.m. Then they will play Webster Groves at 1 p.m., April 29. 

Boys Golf

Due to rain, the Lancers had their game against Eureka canceled. They will travel to Aberdeen Golf Course for the Rockwood Quad, April 27. 

Boys Lacrosse

Blowing out their Rockwood rivals, the Lancers beat Marquette 16-5, April 21. Senior Baylor Adamovsky scored seven goals and one assist in their win. The Lancers will face Vianney April 28 at 8 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse

At the BraveHeart Tournament, which lasted from April 21 to 22, the Lady Lancers went 1-2. They were swept by Kentucky Day School 12-0, then were beaten 11-6 by Louisville duPont Manual. But they were able to win their last game 7-5 against Louisville Assumption. This week, the Lady Lancers have two away games. One at Pattonville and Cor Jesu, April 26 and 28 respectively. 

Girls Soccer

Extending their winning streak to three, the Lady Lancers won in penalty kicks against Visitation after a 0-0 deadlock. Freshman Lauren Henry scored the game-winning spot kick and freshman goalie Gen Newell claimed a fifth clean sheet. This week they will play in the Orchard Farm-Duchesne Tournament. They will play Lutheran St. Charles and Orchard Farms and could proceed to the knock-out rounds if they do well enough against their two foes. 

Boys Tennis

The Lancers lost 6-3 against Westminster. Their match against Marquette was rescheduled to April 25. On April 26, they will play Parkway West at home at 4:15 p.m. and the next day they will travel to Kirkwood. 

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers placed second at the Ladue Invitational. Sophomore Robby Preckel broke his own school record for javelin with a distance of 49.87 meters, leading him to 1st place. 

Girls Track and Field

The Lady Lancers won their Ladue Invitational. Senior Grace Tyson won the 3200-meter and the 4×800-meter team won their race. 

Boys Volleyball

In a sweep, the Lancers lost against Webster Groves 3-0, April 18. They bounced back with a sweep over Mehlville 3-0, April 19. Later in the week, the Lancers participated in the Parkway Central Tournament. In the group stage, they won against Fort Zumwalt West 2-0 and lost to Lindbergh 2-1. In the knockout round, they beat Marquette and CBC, however, in the semifinal game, they lost to Lindbergh again 2-1. The Lancers beat Oakville 2-0 for 3rd place. The Lancers will travel to Oakville for a rematch in a conference game, April 25. They will face Westminster April 25 and Lindbergh April 26. Both games are at home at 5:30 p.m. On April 29, the Lancers will face Francis Howell North and O’Fallon. 

Boys Water Polo

The Lancers lost 15-4 against Parkway Central. At the Lindbergh Invitational, the Lancers went 1-3. They lost against CBC 11-10, New Trier 15-8 and Kirkwood 19-6. They won against Bluff City 12-5, with junior Noah Schott and freshman Owen Waeckerle scoring three goals each. The Lancers then won their conference game against MICDS 15-11, April 20. Schott scored seven in that victory. The Lancers will rematch with CBC April 25 then they will play in the John Burroughs Invite. They will face Parkway South, Oakville, John Burroughs, Clayton and Marquette. 

Girls Water Polo

The Lady Lances lost against Parkway North 16-5, April 21. But, they bounced back with a 15-4 against Parkway West. On April 25, the Lady Lancers will have a conference game against Oakville at home, at 6:30. This game, which takes place April 25, will be the eighth time both teams have faced each other, and Lafayette has never won this matchup. Then later in the week, the Lady Lancers will host the Lafayette Invitational. They will play Marquette, Parkway West, Oakville and Kirkwood, and if they do well enough, there will be knockout rounds.
