Girls swim takes 2nd in Conference, divers take top two spots individually setting personal records

Boys Basketball

The Lancers faced Ladue Feb. 3 and lost, 44-42. With an overall record of 9-12, senior Matt Haefner is leading the team with 388 points and 114 rebounds this season. Senior Cooper Williams has scored the second-highest points on the team with 124 points and senior Josh Dennis is third with 121 points. The boys basketball team will go up against Pattonville Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. and also Parkway Central Feb. 10 at home at 7 p.m. 

Girls Basketball

The team lost to Parkway West, 55-31,  Jan. 31 and then lost again Feb. 3 to Ladue, 61-54. Sophomore Taylor Nania is leading the team with 208 points scored throughout the season, having scored 22 of the points against Ladue. Nania has also made several successful defensive plays, with a total of 127 rebounds and 13 assists. The team currently has a 2-19 record. They’ll be facing Holt at the away court Feb. 7 and Parkway North Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. in the Lafayette Main Gym.

Hockey 

So far in the 2022-2023 season, the team has had a 2-16 record. They lost to John Burroughs, 4-3, with junior Greyson Eble scoring a goal and an assist Feb. 3. On Feb. 4, the team won against Parkway West, 1-0. Eble scored the winning shot in the 2nd period. The team faced Webster Groves Feb. 6 at 9:30 p.m. for their last playoff game and tied, 3-3. 

Girls Swimming and Diving: 

The swimming and diving team had a successful week competing in the Suburban Yellow Pool Conference Meet Feb. 1, where they took 2nd place overall. In the diving event, senior Maggie Arceaneux beat a personal record and earned 1st place. Sophomore Lucia Tenny also earned a PR and took 2nd. Other top 10 finishes included 4th place finishes by the 200 freestyle relay team of senior Maddy Prager, juniors Taylor Cloutman and Ellie Kipper and freshman Isabella Clerico and the 200 medley relay team of seniors Prager, Morgan O’Connell, Grace Tyson and junior Megan Bilsland.  The 400 freestyle relay team of Bilsland, Cloutman, Kipper and Tyson placed 5th.
In individual races, Cloutman took 2nd in the 500 freestyle and 3rd in the 200 freestyle. Tyson placed 4th in the 100 butterfly and Bilsland placed 4th in the 100 backstroke. Prager got 5th place in the 50 freestyle.  

Girls Wrestling

At one of the last matches of the season Feb. 1, girls wrestling lost to Marquette, 39-36. They will head to Districts at Northwest High School Feb. 10-11. Last year, the girls wrestling team placed 2nd at Districts and had five State qualifiers. Faith Cole, Class of 2022, won 1st place in her division at State for the fourth time.

Boys Wrestling

Boys wrestling team dominated Marquette with a 66-12 win Feb. 1. The team will head to Districts Feb. 10-11. Last year, the team placed 2nd at Districts and made it to State, where they left as champions as Tommy Hagan, Class of 2022, placed 1st at State. Senior Gavin Shoulders was a State qualifier last year, placing 2nd in Districts. Despite recovering from a sprained ankle, Shoulders is hopeful for this year’s Districts. 

“As of right now, Districts will be interesting,” Shoulders said. “I’ve just been in the trainer trying to heal it. I believe I’ll be practicing Feb. 6, but keeping it slow.”
