Baseball

Last week the Lancers placed 13th out of 16 teams at the Midwest Classic. In that tournament, the Lancers went two extra innings before darkness ended the game with Fort Zumwalt North, 7-7. Senior Tripp Johns hit a homerun during that game. Next, Lafayette faced off against Francis Howell and was shut out, 7-0. Later in the tournament, they lost 5-2 against Francis Howell Central and then won 15-3 against Holt. Their record stands at 3-3-1 for the season. Coming up this week, the Lancers play Parkway South at home April 3. Then faces Kirkwood back-to-back April 4-5.

Girls Lacrosse

With senior Natalie Tomljenovic leading the Lady Lancers with five goals, Lafayette defeated Parkway West 15-4, March 28. Seniors Kara Niewoehner, Tomljenovic and sophomore Lucia Stoynoff all scored three goals in their 14-3 win against Belleville West March 29. The Lady Lancers’ win streak continued against St. Thomas Aquinas on April 1, with a 13-6 win. However, that win streak came to an end with a 13-6 loss against Shawnee Mission. Their record overall stands now at 3-1. Tomljenovic leads the offense with 18 goals. On April 3, they traveled to Francis Howell and April 4 they will travel to Eureka to take on the Wildcats.

Boys Lacrosse

The team has started its season with a 3-1 record after defeating Seckman 17-11, Lindbergh 16-13 and Rockwood Summit 12-6. Their only loss was to CBC March 29, where they lost by one to CBC, 14-13. They will face Eureka in the Battle of 109 on April 4 on the Lancer Stadium field at 7:30 p.m. 

Girls Soccer

Scoring a hattrick of goals, junior Emily Derucki led Lafayette to a 4-1 win over Pattonville March 28. Junior Allie Kinner contributed with  three assists. On March 29, the Lady Lancers defeated Parkway Central 1-0, which gave freshman goalie Gen Newell her first clean sheet of the season. The girls continued their winning streak with a 2-0 win against Oakville March 30. Derucki and Kinner both assisted and scored against Oakville, and their overall record under new Head Coach Ryan Butchart is now 3-0. The Lady Lancers face Parkway South April 3, Summit April 4 and Lindbergh April 6.

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers got 1st at the Lindbergh Invitational. The team placed in all 19 events with junior Jack Robeson winning three events. Robeson took 1st in the 1600-meter, 800-meter and with his 800-meter relay of seniors Brycen Compton, LJ Groenewald and junior Dillon Cronin. Isaac Jovcevski placed 1st in the long jump and triple jump. Sophomore Malan Graham won the high jump. Robeson believes the team has the potential for greatness this season.

“For the team, we could be really good. Our distance side is strong, our sprints improved since last year, and Isaac has been jumping really well. Also, Malan, who moved here from South Africa, is really solid in his events. In terms of St. Louis teams, Lafayette is one of the most well-rounded. I don’t know if we’re going to place at state, but it’s going to be interesting to watch and see,” Robeson said.

Boys Tennis

On March 29, the Lancers lost 8-1 to Eureka and March 30 they lost 7-2 to Parkway South. They will face Summit away April 4, Webster Groves April 5 at home at 4:15 p.m. and at Lindbergh April 6. 

Boys Volleyball

 Traveling to Parkway West March 28, the Lancers beat the Longhorns, 3-1. Senior Cooper Williams led the team with 11 kills. Lafayette swept Pattonville 3-0 the next day. The Lancers have now defeated Pattonville 24 times with this win. Continuing their winning streak, Lafayette beat Rockwood Summit, 3-1. Junior Lucas Tran leads the team in kills with 45.  The Lancers take their 3-0 record into three games this week when they go on the road to Kirkwood April 4 and De Smet April 5 and then face Seckman at home April 6 at 5:30 p.m. 

Boys Water Polo

Facing the Lindbergh Flyers, the Lancers fell, 13-10. Junior Noah Schott and freshman Owen Waeckerle both scored four goals against the Flyers. In the first game of the Founder’s Cup Tournament, the Lancers lost against Parkway Central 16-4 March 30. Due to inclement weather, the Lancer’s last two games of the Founder’s Cup were played April 1. They shutout Clayton 12-0, with senior goalie Diego Prado tallying the second-most saves in the St. Louis area. Later that day, Schott scored eight goals and helped defeat Chaminade, 17-6. Schott leads the St. Louis area in goals with 57 goals. The Lancers face SLUH April 4. 

Girls Water Polo

 The Lady Lancers were narrowly beaten 10-9 by Lindbergh March 28. But they bounced back and won both of their games April 1. They beat Parkway West 16-2 and beat Kirkwood 15-9. The Lady Lancers will play Pattonville April 4 and Kirkwood April 6. Senior Talia Ramsey is leading the St. Louis Area in goals, with 30 goals. Ramsey doesn’t see her scoring stopping. 

“I do think that I’ll keep scoring at the rate I am at right now,” Ramsey said. “My expectations for the team this season are to make sure that we are not a one-man team and everyone is contributing to our wins.”
