Wrestlers host Fred Ross Invitational with boys taking first, girls taking third overall

Boys Basketball
On Jan. 4, the Lancers took on Kirkwood at home and came out on top, 55-40, with junior Matt Haefner scoring 17. This season, Haefner has 183 points. He also leads in rebounds with 82 and steals with 21. Senior Matt Jones has 152 points, averaging 15,2 per game. Senior Jack Clark is also playing strong defense with 72 rebounds. On Jan. 8, the Lancers took on another big rival, Rockwood Summit, and took the win,  70-64. The Lancers will take on the Wentzville Eagles at Liberty on Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. They play next at home against Lindberg on Jan. 18.

Girls Basketball
The Lady Lancers fell to the Kirkwood Pioneers in a close one on Jan. 4, 37-34. Following the loss, the team bounced back to beat the Rockwood Summit Falcons, 55-43, with senior Ana McClellan leading with 20 points. She is averaging 11.1 points per game, followed by senior Andrya Roach with 9.4. McClellan also leads the team in rebounds with 84. On Jan. 16, the Lancers will face Lindbergh at 6 p.m.

Hockey
This week the Lancers played three games, and went 1-2. In the first game, the Lancers took a  7-5 victory over Francis Howell on Jan. 3. Senior Shane Robinson had a hat trick in the game, junior Andrew Knapp scored two and senior Nathaniel Orf and sophomore Greyson Eble each had one to round out the victory for the Lancers. In the next two match-ups, the Lancers suffered two hard losses. The first came on Jan. 7 against SLUH, 9-1, with the lone goal scored by Orf about five minutes into the game. Then, on Jan. 8, they fell to CBC, as the Cadets shut down the Lancers, 8-0. Now sitting at 3-11-3, the Lancers will have a couple of weeks to recover, and they’ll face the De Smet Spartans on Jan. 21 at 9:30 p.m. at the Maryville Hockey Center.

Boys Wrestling
The Lancers continue their perfect season beating Eureka on Jan. 5, 61-12.  Next, on Jan. 8, Lafayette hosted its annual Fred Ross Invitational where they took the team championship. Individual medalists included first place winners senior Tommy Hagan and sophomore Andrew Weir, second place winners senior Drew Doehring, freshmen Jackson Tenny, Aidan Schoen and senior Ryan Wunderlich and third place trophies went to senior Alex Doehring and sophomore Jayden Kennington. Other medals went to seniors Max Doehring, Nick Harrell, Jack McDonald,  juniors Blake Johnson and Gavin Shoulders and sophomore Dylan Roth. The Lancers will participate in the St. Charles West Tournament on Jan. 14-15.

Girls Wrestling
The Lady Lancers took down Eureka, 34-33, on Jan. 5 at Eureka High School. Then on Jan. 8, they placed third overall at the Fred Ross Invitational . Seniors Faith Cole and Seraphina Blackmon earned first place medals, along with junior Jayla Jones. “My season has been good so far. I’ve met a lot of new people and have had new challenges [along the way]. I’m also 12-1 for my record,” Blackmon said. Other medalists include junior Mckenna Budnick, sophomore Maddie Johnson and freshman Ashlee Dakin in fourth place, freshman Hannah Henderson in fifth place, junior Brianna Chong in sixth place and sophomore Mera Flores in seventh place. The team will be competing in the St. Charles West Tournament on Jan. 14-15.
