Hockey falls in title game, basketball teams end seasons in Districts

Boys Basketball
After their win on Feb. 25, the team moved onto districts, which were held at CBC High School. In the first round Feb. 28, the Lancers faced the Kirkwood Pioneers, winning 56-40. In the District Semifinal game, the Lancers faced the CBC Cadets and lost, 94-41 ending the season for the Lancers. “My favorite part of the season, by far,  was beating Eureka in the regular season. It was just a great moment I’ll never forget,” senior Matt Jones said. This season, junior Matt Haefner and Jones scored the most points for the team with Haefner scoring 392 points and Jones scoring 340 points. The boys ended the season with a record of 16-11.

Girls Basketball
In their only game this week on March 1, the Lady Lancers went up against the Marquette Mustangs, losing, 49-46. The Lady Lancers scored the majority of their points during the first quarter with 15 points being scored during this quarter. The loss brought their final overall record to 12-12.

Hockey
The Lancers played in the championship for the Wickenheiser Cup March 4. The game ended, 2-1 in favor of the Priory Ravens. Although the Lancers outshot the Ravens, 25-22, Lafayette’s only goal was scored by sophomore Greyson Eble in the second period. The game ended a seven-game playoff winning streak for the Lancers, and the team ended with a 10-12-3 overall season record.
