Weekly Sports Update April 18-April 24

Senior Aksheet Paralkar participates in a match against Marquette April 21. The Lancers now have a 14-15 overall record against Marquette and have a 1-5 record on the season.

Staff

Baseball

The Lancers took on Rockwood Summit April 19 and won, 6-3. Junior Austin Campbell and fellow junior Cannon Stuckley both had two RBI during the game. Junior PJ Rogan was credited with the save in the game. The Lancers then took on Rockwood Summit again April 21 and won, 5-2. Senior Jude Tenny drove in two runs during the game and junior Jack Stauss pitched six innings and had 10 strikeouts. The Lancers then faced off in a doubleheader against Jackson High School and lost both games, 10-5 and 12-3, respectively. Junior Aiden Cizek had three RBI during the first game. During the second game, senior Drew Fick hit a home run. The Lancers were also outhit during the second game, 11 hits to four hits. The Lancers next take on Kirkwood April 26 at 4:30 p.m. and then play at Kirkwood at 4:15 p.m. April 27. Finally, the Lancers face off against Parkway West April 29 at 4:15 p.m. at Parkway West.

Girls Lacrosse

On April 19, the Lady Lancers beat Rockwood Summit, 15-11, before heading to Louisville, Kentucky for a tournament taking place at Louisville Sacred Heart Academy. The Lancers played their first game of the tournament against Louisville DuPont Manual on April 22 and lost, 9-6. On April 23, they lost to Sacred Heart Academy, 11-3, and Kentucky Country Day, 15-4, before winning against Castle, 9-6. Junior Natalie Tomljenovic scored three goals during the game and had one assist. After the tournament, their record now stands even at 5-5. This week, they will play three days in a row. First in a home game against Parkway West April 26, then against Westminster April 27 in another home game, and finally at O’Fallon April 28.

Boys Lacrosse

Continuing the winning streak, The Lancers took on the Marquette Mustangs at Chesterfield Valley April 22 winning, 12-7. Starting the week of April 26, the Lancers will face Kirkwood at 7:30 p.m. On April 28, the boys will face SLUH at 7:00 p.m. In a later game this week, the boys will be facing Houston, Tennessee April 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Boys Golf

On April 18, the Lancers finished in sixth place, tying with Chaminade with 320 points,  out of 24 teams today at the Webster Cup Tournament. Senior Kyle Rinkenberger had a score of 75 strokes and was three over par. On April 21, the Lancers defeated Oakville 240-259. Senior Trip Sanfelippo had a score of 31 strokes and was three under par. The Lancers next participate in the Lake Forest Challenge at 8 a.m. April 25.

Girls Soccer

The Lancers had a successful week this past week, dominating every game they had. Playing against Orchard Farm, the girls overpowered them, 6-0. Senior Rylee Howard led the win with four goals, alongside seniors Anya Shawke and Mikayla Morales who each scored one goal. The Lancers then edged out Visitation, 1-0, April 19, with a goal by sophomore Emily Derucki. When at home field April 21, the Lancers faced Rockwood Summit and won the game, 4-1. Howard scored two goals, Morales scored one goal and Derucki also scored a goal. In their last game of the week, the team won a close game against Oakville, 2-1. Howard and Morales both scored a goal in the game. On April 25, the team will face Fort Zumwalt South, then they’ll take on Francis Howell April 26 and Lindbergh April 28 at Rockwood Summit field for the Meg Herndon Tournament.

Girls Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the Ladue Brusca-Strohbach Invitational. The Lancers finished in sixth place with a final total of 50 points. Junior Grace Tyson finished in third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.01. Tyson also grabbed the top spot in the 1600-meter run. Fellow junior Elissa Barnard finished in sixth place in the same event. Barnard also finished in third place in the 1600-meter run. Junior Hannah Miriani finished in eighth place in the 3200-meter run and sophomore Ashley Rinkenberger finished in tenth place in the same event. In the 4×100-meter relay, the Lancers finished in tenth place with a time of 52.58. In the 4×400-meter relay, the Lancers finished in eighth place with a time of 4:31.51. The Lancers also finished in third place in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 10:23.81. Junior Layne Witherspoon finished in eighth place in the high jump event. Witherspoon also finished in tenth place in the long jump event. Junior Caitlyn Little finished in ninth place in the triple jump event. In the pole vault event, senior Nicole Linsenbardt finished in sixth place. Junior Emma Durfee finished in fifth place in the discus event and also finished in second place in the javelin event. The Lancers next participate in the Kimball/Wintermeyer Girls Invitational at Eureka High School April 28.

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the Ladue Brusca-Strohbach Invitational. The Lancers finished in fourth place with a total of 48 points. Senior Alexander Wildt finished in third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.91. Senior Samuel Aven finished in seventh place in the 800-meter run. Senior Nikolas Malek finished in second place in the 1600-meter run and sophomore Jack Robeson finished in fifth place in the same event. Senior Euan Brodie finished in 110-meter hurdles event and sophomore Isaac Jovceski finished in ninth place in the same event. Jovceski also finished in tenth place 300-meter hurdles event. Freshman Santino Stith finished in seventh place in the same event. In the 4×400-meter relay, the Lancers finished in seventh place with a time of 3:36.44. In the 4×800-meter relay, the Lancers finished in second place with a time of 8:15.65. Freshman Thomas Preckel finished in seventh place in the triple jump event. Senior Ryan Swan finished in seventh place in the pole vault event and senior Landon Oelschlaeger finished in tenth place in the discus event. The Lancers next partcipate in the Jim Schumck Patriot Invitational April 28 at Parkway South High School.

Boys Tennis

On April 21, the boys tennis team traveled to rival Marquette and were shut out by the Mustangs, 9-0. This was the second time during the season that the Lancers had been shutout.  “Marquette’s a very good team but I’m still proud of the guys on our team,” senior Gavin Krone said. The Lancers had a game against Westminster April 20 but it was canceled due to inclement weather. The Lancers will take on Chaminade April 25 at 4:15 p.m., Francis Howell April 26 at 4:30 p.m., Parkway West April 27 at 4:15 p.m. and Kirkwood at Kirkwood Park April 28 at 4:30 p.m. All of these games will be away due to the Lafayette tennis court renovations.

Boys Volleyball

The Lancers participated in the Parkway Central Classic between April 22-23. The first match of the tournament, the Lancers took on Parkway South and lost in three sets, with Parkway South winning two sets and the Lancers winning one set. The Lancers then faced off against Francis Howell and lost in two sets, with the Lancers dropping both sets. On April 23, the Lancers faced off against Fort Zumwalt West and won in two sets, with the Lancers winning both sets. Finally, the Lancers took on Parkway North and won in three sets, with the Lancers winning two sets and Parkway North winning one set. The Lancers next take on Seckman at 5:30 p.m. April 26 and Lindbergh at Lindbergh at 5:30 p.m. April 28.

Girls Water Polo

The Lancers defeated Parkway West once more this season, 17-5 April 18. Later in the week, Lafayette beat Kirkwood, 9-4 April 21. Scoring six points against Parkway West, senior Casey Murphy relied on the cooperation of the team to yield their success. “Throughout the whole game everyone was talking and communicating with each other. The girls were all passing well and everything we have been working on for the past couple of weeks came together making it a really good game,” Murphy said.

Boys Water Polo

The Lancers lost, 21-8 to the undefeated Parkway West April 18. Senior AJ Ipson, who is second on the team in goals scored, dislocated his shoulder while Parkway West was already far ahead. Ipson hopes to be back by the finals. In his absence, the Lancers lost in the semifinals of the Summit Invitational. Senior Dylan Vorbeck scored 13 goals in four games. Vorbeck is now third in the area in goals scored, having scored 89 goals. The Lancers now have a 13-9 season record.
