Boys golf takes fourth place at Bulldog Battle, girls lacrosse prepare to face Rockwood Summit

Staff

Baseball

The Lancers took on Marquette April 12 and were shutout, 3-0. Junior Aiden Bray had two hits during the game. The Lancers then faced off against Marquette again April 14 and edged out the Mustangs in walk-off fashion, 5-4. Junior Austin Campbell had the walk-off hit in the game. Senior Zack Hoffman pitched two innings with five strikeouts and was credited with the win in the game. The Lancers next take on Rockwood Summit on consecutive days, with the Lancers facing Rockwood Summit at Lafayette April 19 at 4:30 p.m. and taking on Rockwood Summit at Rockwood Summit April 20 at 4:30 p.m. The Lancers have enjoyed success against Rockwood Summit, with the Lancers winning every meeting of the two teams between 2015-2021. The Lancers currently possess a 25-6 overall record against Rockwood Summit and look to increase their record.

Girls Lacrosse

The Lancers scored their third victory of the season in dominant fashion against Marquette, 13-4, April 11. Their next game was against Memphis Hutchinson, which Lafayette lost, 23-11. These two home games brought their season record to 3-2. Next up, they face Rockwood Summit at home April 19. They will be traveling to Louisville, Kentucky to play against DuPont Manual at Sacred Heart Academy April 22.

Boys Lacrosse

On April 11, the Lancers edged out the Seckman Jaguars, 8-7. On April 14, the Lancers faced De Smet and lost, 14-3, breaking their winning streak. The boys now have a 6-2 overall record. Kicking off the week April 19, the Lancers will face the Parkway South Patriots for an away game at Parkway South Middle School. The Lancers have enjoyed success against the Patriots, with a 7-3 overall record while facing Parkway West. On April 22, the Lancers will face the Marquette Mustangs for an away game at Chesterfield Valley at 6:30 p.m.

Boys Golf

The Lancers finished in fourth place out of 20 teams in the Bulldog Battle at Winghaven April 14 with a score of 305. Senior Kyle Rinkenberger finished in third place individually with a score of 72. Senior Trip Sanfelippo finished in tenth place individually with a score of 74 and was two-over-par. The Lancers tied with Eureka with a team score of 250 April 14.

Girls Soccer

Even with four games this week, the Lancers have reached an overall record of 5-2 so far. Though they lost, 2-0, to St. Dominic April 11, the Lancers came back with a shutout win April 14 against Kirkwood at home. In their strongest game so far, senior Rylee Howard scored four goals, seniors Anya Shawke and Lily Zehner each scored one goal, junior Ava Brown scored one goal and sophomore Emily Derucki scored another goal, all contributing to the 8-0 win. There were also six assists from senior Ana McClellan, sophomore Allie Kinner, Shawke and Derucki. McClellan has a lot of confidence in the team. “We all have the effort it takes to win games and the effort to genuinely want to grow as players and as teammates. Those are the things I believe make up a great team,” she said. On April 15, the Lancers went to the Parkway Showcase Games at Lou Fousz and faced Metea Valley High School from Illinois, winning, 2-1. Senior Mikayla Morales scored both goals and Howard assisted. The team has another full week of games, facing Orchard Farm April 18, Visitation April 19, Rockwood Summit April 21 at home and Oakville April 23 at home.

Girls Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the Henle Holmes Invite April 14, finishing in fourth place. Senior Paige Halter finished in sixth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.97. Freshman Avery Brown finished in fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.49. Brown also finished in second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.71. Junior Elissa Barnard finished in third place in the 800-meter run and sophomore Natalie Barnard finished in fifth place in the same event. In the 1600-meter run, Elissa and Natalie took the top two spots on the podium, finishing in first place and second place respectively. In the 3200-meter run, junior Grace Tyson took the top spot and fellow junior Blair Lobdell finished in third place. Tyson also finished in first place in the 3200-meter run. The Lancers took the eighth spot in the 4×100-meter relay. The Lancers also finished in seventh place in the 4×200-meter relay. The Lancers grabbed the fifth spot in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:26.26. The Lancers also finished in fourth place in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 10:35.35. In the discuss event, junior Emma Durfee finished in fourth place. Durfee also finished in fourth place in the javelin event. Freshman Lily Vellines finished in sixth place in the pole vaulting event. The Lancers next participate in the Ladue Brusca-Strohbach Invitational April 23.

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the Henle Holmes Invite April 14, finishing in fifth place. Senior Bross Miller finished in third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.91 and senior Sam Aven finished in fifth place in the same event with a time of 2:02.74. Senior Nikolas Malek took second place in the 1600-meter run, with junior Lukas Groenewald finishing in third place in the same event. Sophomore Jack Robeson finished in second place in 3200-meter run, with a time of 10:04.73. The Lancers finished in ninth place in the 4×100-meter relay and seventh place in the 4×200-meter relay. The Lancers finished in fifth place in the 4×400-meter relay, with a time of 3:34.56. The Lancers also finished in eighth place in the 4×800-meter relay. In the discus event, senior Landon Oelschlaeger finished in third place. Oelschlaeger also finished in fifth place in the javelin event. In the same event, senior Tucker Ryan finished in fourth place. In the shot put event, freshman Thomas Preckel finished in fifth place. The Lancers next participate in the Ladue Brusca-Strohbach Invitational April 23.

Boys Tennis

On April 12, the Lancers took on Ladue at home and were shutout, 9-0. Their conference record stands at 1-4 at this moment. The Lancers will travel to Westminster April 20 and will take on Marquette April 21 at Marquette. The Lancers currently have a 14-14 overall record against the Mustangs and look to rise back over a .500 winning percentage against the Mustangs.

Boys Volleyball

The Lancers faced off against Oakville April 12 and lost in five sets. Oakville won three sets and the Lancers won two sets. Junior Matt Haefner and sophomore Clay Harmon both scored two points during the match. The Lancers were scheduled to take on Borgia April 13, but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Lancers then took on Eureka April 14 and lost in five sets, with Eureka winning three sets and the Lancers winning two sets. Haefner had a strong showing, scoring seven points and recording 17 assists. The Lancers next take on Pattonville at Pattonville April 18 at 5:30 p.m.

Girls Water Polo

On April 12, the Lancers lost to Marquette, 14-7. Later in the week, Parkway North beat Lafayette by three points on April 14, 12-9. Overall, the Lancers has a season record of 6-8. Junior Ansley Lewis feels the team has improved throughout their last few games. “ We bonded really well and we were able to get the ball around with little turnovers,” Lewis said. The Lancers will face off against Parkway West April 18 at 6:30 p.m. The Lancers have faced Parkway West once before and won, with the Lancers looking repeat a winning performance against Parkway West.

Boys Water Polo

The Lancers lost, 10-9 to De Smet April 11 despite a five goal performance from Senior AJ Ipson. Senior Dylan Vorbeck scored six goals in a 17-5 win over Pattonville April 14. The Lancers next home game is April 18 at 5:30 pm against undefeated Parkway West.
