Review of Lafayette’s loss to Eureka and a preview of Lafayette’s upcoming game against Hazelwood Central
August 28, 2015
Lafayette looks for their first win of the season after a devastating loss to Eureka in Week 1.
The Wildcats ran past the Lancers on the heels of Hassan Haskins (41 carries for 275 yds.) en route to a 35-13 win on Friday, Aug. 21. Eureka started strong, jumping out to a 21 point lead midway through the second quarter. Lafayette retaliated by scoring a touchdown, putting the halftime score at 21-7 in favor of Eureka.
Throughout the third quarter both Lafayette and Eureka battled, not letting each other score; it was not until a fourth quarter interception by the Wildcats (Zach Chapis) that the Lancers’ fate was sealed. Both teams managed to score an additional touchdown it the fourth quarter, with Lafayette failing a two point conversion, which led to a final score of 35-13 and a Wildcat victory.
The Lancers have high hopes entering week two of the season with a face-off against the Hazlewood Central High School Hawks. Viewers are told to expect a high scoring game as these two offensive juggernauts look to see whose offense can mange to outplay the other.
Lancers defense will be strong, however, as they will certainly assist the offense in some of its scoring. Senior Ben Bollinger, middle line backer, said “Defensively, we are always looking to produce turnovers and score on defense.”
Bollinger also went on to predict three defensive turnovers for the Lancers with one of them being brought back for a touchdown.
Lancers plan to have a much faster start in week two as they prepare to take on the Hawks. Lancers are plotting to jump out to an early lead and never let it go.
This will certainly be another challenging game for the Lancers, but they seem prepared to leap the hurdle and get their first win of the season.
