Girls varsity volleyball starts off season against St. Joe

The Lady Lancers varsity volleyball team is preparing to face off against the St. Joseph’s Angels at home tomorrow on the brand new main gym floor. After finishing in second place behind Northwest Cedar Hill last year, the Lancers will look to bounce back and take first place in conference this year.

The new gym floor was under construction in the summer of 2015 and forced the volleyball teams into the back gym to practice.

This has been challenging, but our players have adjusted well and have done a great job going with the flow,” Zach Young said, head coach of the girl’s varsity volleyball team.

Although the renovation of the new gym floor has been an obstacle for the volleyball players, many are looking on the bright side.

Outside Hitter Amanda Beaton said, “I’m very excited about the new gym floor. Even though it was a minor inconvenience of having to play in the back gym with the little space, we are all excited to get to play on it for our first match.”

The main gym floor is set to be done the day before the Lancers take the court against the Angels.

“It’s been frustrating that it wasn’t finished by the time practice started, but it’s going to look awesome, and we’re going to be the first team to play on it which is very exciting,” Young said.

The team is eager to start the season with five seniors on the team. Among those are Amanda Beaton, Kenzie Erickson, Taryn Griffey, Morgan Kantouth and Alayna Martin.

Young encourages students to come out and watch the team’s first game on the new floor and support them tomorrow at 4:30.
