Lafayette’s boys basketball team defeated DeSmet in the first round of the annual Ameritime Tournament played at Missouri Baptist University. Senior guard Nate Messer led the way to a victory as he executed key baskets consistently throughout the game.

Lafayette started out slow as they trailed the Spartans multiple times throughout the first half. Although DeSmet put up a tough defensive effort, it couldn’t outlast the Lancers.

Coach Scott Allen stated after Monday night’s game, “We’ve had a little bit of a funk for three days and that happens.” Allen was able to reach his 100th victory as a Lafayette coach against the Spartans, a big moment for both him and the basketball organization.

Prior to the victory, a seven game win streak was snapped on Friday by a dominant St. Louis U. High team. The Lancers were held to a season low, 22 points, and struggled on offense. They have been in a scoring slump, but are determined to improve their execution and roll on the with the rest of the season.

Tonight night, the No. 2 seed Lafayette will take on No. 3 seed Parkway Central at 8:30 pm.
