One ballet that could captivate anyone

Black Swan, the new drama starring Natalie Portman, was one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Typically, I shy away from going to the movies often due to how expensive it is, plus I would rather watch a movie curled up on the couch at home. But, when I saw the trailer for this movie in November, I knew this was worth seeing in theaters.

The plot of the movie was based around ballerina Nina (Portman). The season at the ballet was going to open with Swan Lake, and the swan queen, which Nina was chosen to be, would play both the white and black swan. Nina, fitting the white swan perfectly, tore herself apart attempting to fit the black swan’s dark characteristics.

Other than that, I’m afraid I cannot tell you much more about the plot without ruining it.

It was everything a movie should be: flawlessly done, visually beautiful, thrilling, comedic at times, sad at times but most importantly it had the psychological factor that made every scene a guessing game. I never knew if Portman’s character Nina was hallucinating, or if the event was actually happening.

The musical score was breathtaking. It moved with the more tense parts of the movie, getting louder and softer according to the mood. It enhanced every aspect of the film.

Each of the actors and actresses fit their roles perfectly, and I was especially impressed with Portman who came off as incredibly weak and fragile in the beginning, but morphed into a dark, powerful woman.

Black Swan was a five out of five, and I highly doubt I will see a movie even nearly as good as it for a long, long time.
