Scottish indie-band Frightened Rabbit released their third album The Winter of Mixed Drinks on March 11.
I will admit I was a bit skeptical when I first heard the album.
Frightened Rabbit’s last album The Midnight Organ Flight was so impressive to me. I wasn’t sure how the band could top themselves for the type of music they make.
So, when I started to play the new album and it sounded much different from their last, I was incredibly surprised to say the least.
The Winter of Mixed Drinks tells a story of struggle and escape through lyrics such as “all I need is your hand to drag me out again”.
The album has a much more relaxed feel, each song with a repetitive and strong drumbeat. The lead singer Scott Hutchison sings beautiful melodies that fill each song in a unique way.
All and all I would give the album four stars out of five and would certainly recommend it to all of you indie-rock fans.
