Scheduling begins for 2016-2017 school year
January 20, 2017
Although many students are still getting used to their schedules for this semester, administration is already looking into the next school year. The scheduling portal for the 2017-2018 school year has opened, and students have a few new classes to keep an eye out for when making their selections.
Just as scheduling has worked in past years, students will choose 14 classes, seven for each semester, as well as four alternate courses. The alternates serve as backups in case the classes chosen initially do not fit into a student’s schedule.
Two new math classes have been added to the list of options for this school year: Algebra 1 -AMPED and Geometry – Geometry in Construction. The former must be taken in conjunction with the Business Management Processes class, while the latter requires current enrollment in Construction. These classes fulfill a year of math class credit and are taken instead of Algebra 1 or Geometry respectively. Both are offered for all four grades, but AMPED must be taken before Geometry in Construction.
Additionally, a new Career Technical Education (CTE) computer science course, Technical Support and Service, has been added to next year’s options though the class has yet to gain Board of Education approval. This course will assist with the introduction of Chromebooks assigned to students for next year. Students will gain technical support experience by helping their peers with any problems they are having with their laptops.
Students must complete their schedules on Infinite Campus by Jan. 30. Then counselors will be visiting classes to meet with students to go through their choices.
