The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognizes high achieving high school seniors. Each year the NMSC gives out approximately $50 million in scholarships. Students wishing to be selected as a recipient must have taken the PSAT as a high school junior and meet certain citizen requirements.

Thirty four seniors have been named semifinalists in the Rockwood district, 11 of the seniors are from Lafayette.

Those from Lafayette were Sai Allu, Joy Chen, Joshua Essman, Nathaniel Ho, Srikar Kommareddy, Kerri Newcomer, Shruthi Ramalingam, Griffin Sauter, Will Schatz, Alexander Wollam, Lisa Wu and David Zhang.

These selected seniors must now compete to be finalist, then on to the last round as scholars. In order to proceed from semifinalist to finalist, participants must receive a confirming score on the SAT.
