Greenhouse construction to begin on Sept. 7

August 27, 2015
After planning with architects over summer, Principal John Shaughnessy and an elected contractor have approved a plan of action for construction on a greenhouse on the west side of the building. Construction is set to begin on Sept. 7.
The set goal for just how long construction will take is 6 to 8 weeks, or right around the time of Thanksgiving.
The greenhouse will be an extension of the learning facilities around Lafayette.
The greenhouse has multiple purposed uses, including by the Science Department for labs and by engineering classes for experimenting and supporting the greenhouse itself. As well, foods classes will use it to grow herbs or spices and even some produce that can be utilized in meals for lunch.
Outside of school, the greenhouse may be used by the Special School District, programs for kids in job skill training classes and by Early Childhood, growing their own plants for learning purposes.
“The construction of the greenhouse gives us a multitude of opportunities and activities,” Shaughnessy said.
