On Thursday, December 11, Lafayette’s Orchestra performed its annual end-of-year concert, dubbed the “Winter Pop Concert.”
Senior Alastair Hanna opened the show to raise awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and set the stage for chamber orchestra.
The first set consisted of pop hits: “Lady Gaga Hitmix,” featuring songs by Lady Gaga, “Good Luck, Babe!” originally by Chappelle Roan, and “The Final Countdown,” originally by the rock band Europe, were played by chamber orchestra. Hanna served as guest conductor for “The Final Countdown,” and the next song was introduced as a mix of “Let it go,” “Do you want to build a snowman,” and “For the first time in forever” from Disney’s Frozen.
Concert orchestra took the stage after chamber and started their set with modern bossa fusion hit “From the Start” by Laufey.
The group went on to play the theme song from “Game of Thrones,” as well as “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. For the group’s final song, Hannah Imig and sophomore Zara Panchal sang “My Shot” from the Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” to accompany the orchestra and donned costumes to compliment the performance.
Sinfonia orchestra went up next to perform various themes from “West Side Story.” Following that, they played “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan, themes from “The Lion King,” and an arrangement of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” featuring Grace Otto on electric violin.
Symphonic orchestra was last to take the stage for the night. Continuing in a similar vein, they played “Carry on my Wayward Son” by Kansas, followed by themes from Disney’s “Aladdin” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Before the final song, senior Julia Teves took the microphone to address the audience. She thanked guest stars for their talent and contributions to the show.
For their final song, Symphonic orchestra performed Christmas classic “Sleigh Ride,” conducted by guest conductor Haillee Roberts.
