Lafayette’s JROTC wrapped up one of their many community service projects – “H2O for Troops”. The cadets collected packages of bottled water to donate to the United Service Organization (USO) at Lambert International Airport.
Colonel Berenc, the JROTC instructor said, “A group of students came up with the idea during a class discussion about our service projects.”
Initially, the plan was for only JROTC members to donate water, but cadets decided to expand it by inviting Lafayette staff and students to help as well.
The project was deemed a success.
Berenc said, “We are doing very well. The way I look at it is that every donation counts because it is more than they had before.”
Aside from the required 20 hours of community service per school year, JROTC students were eager to participate in the project.
Berenc teaches cadets that “you don’t do [community service] to feel good, you do it because it’s the right thing to do.”
If you did not donate this year, don’t worry. JROTC plans to bring “H2O for Troops” back next year around Christmas.
