On April 8, members of the Sophomore Class received their class rings in an early morning ceremony.
The ceremony began with ROTC presenting the colors. As soon as the flags were posted, the Chamber Choir sang the National Anthem.
Assistant Principal Kirti Mehrotra welcomed the students and their families and proceeded to present a special ring to Math Department Chair Danna Phillips in honor of her Teacher of the Year award.
Sophomore Cass President Jean-Luc Panchot began the formal portion of the ceremony. His speech was followed by speeches from the rest of the sophomore officers, Maddie Van House, Dominic Bisesi and Kelsey Clayman, and from parent Stacy Rolfe.
The speeches explained the meaning of class rings, what they symbolize, their traditions and how to wear them.
The rings were then presented to students by a member of their family or a friend.
“It was really cool to have my dad at the ceremony to give me my ring. It will be my first memory out of many that will come with the ring,” sophomore Jacob Monash said.
The ceremony ended with a poem and a slideshow showing current and baby pictures of each student who received a ring.
“I thought the ceremony was sweet. I know my mom still has her class ring. I didn’t know that she did theater in high school until I saw the ring. I didn’t know my mom and I had that in common. I know it will be good to look back on my ring and remember things like that,” sophomore Leigh Rasmussen said.
