After five years on the Rockwood Board of Education, former School Board President Rao Kaza resigned from his position on April 8. Kaza referred to his job and family as reasons for this decision.
Steve Banton, formerly the Board Vice President, was elected President during the last Board meeting.
“He has a one-year term as president,” Rockwood Chief Communications Officer Kim Cranston said.
However, a new board member will still need to be appointed. Applications for this position will be accepted up until May 3 from “any interested, eligible Rockwood patron,” Cranston said.
Additional information about requirements and the process can be found on the Rockwood website.
The Board plans to appoint a new member on May 6.
Until this date, “The Board will continue to conduct their normal business with the six members,” Cranston said.
This new member will serve for the remaining year of Raza’s term, until the 2011 Board elections.
